Helpful Hints for Safer Roads

Our emergency department has seen a noticeable increase in trauma injuries/accidents and we encourage everyone to do their part to help keep our roads safer this summer. Keep these helpful hints in mind whenever you hit the road:

  1. Buckle up. It could save your life.
  2. Put down your cellphone.  If you need to make a call or send a text, find a safe place to pull over
  3. Watch your speed.  Getting to your destination quickly is never worth jeopardizing safety.
  4. Do not drink and drive.  Drive sober or get pulled over.
  5. Sun glare can be a serious hazard. Wear sunglasses to help you deal with summer sun
  6. Flip flops are not the best footwear for driving. The straps and flimsy soles can easily get caught under the pedals.
  7. Turn on your headlights during twilight hours. That’ll make it easier for other drivers to see you.
  8. Avoid eating behind the wheel. Enjoy snacks at rest areas, or stop at restaurants for meals.
  9. Don’t pack items in any spot that obstructs your view, or your mirrors.
  10. If you start to experience drowsiness, find a safe place to pull over and rest.
