Dodge County Certified as a Blue Zones Community
After more than three years of hard work, commitment and community-wide collaboration, Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam is celebrating the recent certification of Blue Zones Project Dodge County!
The certification by the parent Blue Zones Project® organization recognizes the incredible work that has gone in to making Dodge County a happier and healthier community as well as the measureable milestones that have been achieved.
Since Blue Zones Project Dodge County was sponsored here by Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam, obesity among children aged 2-to-5 has dropped from 15.9% to 12.9% and smoking has declined from 14.4% to 9.8%. Also, in 2019 Dodge County residents had 5.4% fewer health risks than expected had it followed current state of Wisconsin trends. In fact, Dodge County residents are now outperforming the state in areas of nutrition, tobacco use, obesity rates, life evaluation and satisfaction with standard of living.
Making the healthy choices the easy choices has been a labor of love for Blue Zones Project Dodge County staff, community stakeholders and the hundreds of volunteers who have worked diligently to improve community wellbeing. Nearly 3,400 residents have pledged to live longer, healthier lives, 700 have participated in Purpose Workshops, 1,000 have joined a walking, purpose, restaurant or potluck moai and 910 people have enjoyed healthy cooking demonstrations across Dodge County.
