CMS Guidelines Limit Visitors at Hillside Manor, CBRFs

Due to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) guidelines, Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam has begun limiting visitation to its Hillside Manor, Remembrance Home and Eagle’s Wings facilities. These guidelines were enacted after a confirmed COVID-19 case was identified in Dane County. Residents’ families have been notified by phone and letters are going out Thursday morning.https://bdch.com/sites/bdch.com/assets/images/news/72411999_2521327671283865_8642162437996412928_o.jpg

These CMS guidelines have been put in place to ensure the health and safety of nursing home and Community-Based Residential Facility (CBRF) residents nationwide and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

All other Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam locations and services continue operations as scheduled, but will be reviewed as the COVID-19 situation evolves.

Limiting visitation means that individuals will not be allowed to enter these nursing home and CBRF facilities, except for certain situations. Additional precautions for approved nursing home and CBRF visitors have also been put in place.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of situations would allow visitation in the nursing home and CBRF facilities?

  • Examples of situations in which visitation would be allowed include end-of-life circumstances or when a visitor is essential to the resident’s care and emotional well-being. For example, a daughter who visits her mother every Monday, would cease these visits, and limit her visits to only those situations when her mom has a significant issue.

What additional precautions have been put into place for the nursing home and CBRF facilities?

  • Dedicated spaces will be utilized for visitation and will be sanitized after each interaction. Social distances will be observed as well as no hand-shaking or hugging. MMC-Beaver Dam understands and respects the importance of the relationships residents have with their loved ones. As such, other types of communication, such as via phone or virtually, are encouraged during this time.

If I feel sick with a fever or cough, what should I do?

  • Stay home if you are sick with fever or cough, and do not go to work or school while sick.
  • If you need medical care, call your health care provider before coming in (except in an emergency). Contact your provider right away if you have high fever, shortness of breath, or extreme weakness.
