BDCH Earns Best Practices Award for Commitment to High-Quality CPR

Beaver Dam Community Hospital received a Best Practices Award from the American Heart Association (AHA) for its commitment to performing high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of the AHA’s Resuscitation Quality Improvement program.

BDCH implemented the Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) process for CPR in March 2017. RQI uses a combination of quarterly online learning modules, patient simulation cases and a mobile skills station to help providers maintain competence in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. The stations are equipped with adult and infant mannequins and a tablet computer that connects to the training material. Visual and audio feedback for compressions and ventilation monitor the quality of performance and provides reinforcement or suggestions for improvement.https://bdch.com/sites/bdch.com/assets/images/news/IMG_5172p-lo.jpg

“BDCH staff members are committed to delivering the best patient experience and highest quality of care and safety close to home,” said Kim Miller, FACHE, Beaver Dam Community Hospitals, Inc. President and CEO. “We are proud of the dedication they have shown to our patients by participating in ongoing training and certification as part of the RQI program.”

BDCH has 512 staff members certified who will use the RQI for maintenance of competency for Basic Life Support or Advanced Cardiac Life Support. In October 2017, Pediatric Advanced Life Support was added with 87 individuals currently completing their PALS certification using the RQI cart.

“As an early adopter of the RQI Program, Beaver Dam Community Hospital has shown a truly innovative spirit and commitment to high quality CPR,” said Adam Cates, RQI Partners Impact Manager. “We are proud to recognize them for their dedication to saving more lives.”

The AHA RQI Program is designed to improve CPR quality by providing quarterly training, assessment and analytics to support mastery of high-quality CPR skills. The goal of the RQI program is to help sustain high-quality CPR and improve patient outcomes through brief and regular skills practice. The percentage of healthcare providers performing excellent CPR more than doubled (from 26% to 65%) when the RQI system with real-time feedback was used.
